From the Introduction of Jesus is the Now King: The American military draws up Combat Operation Plans that are complete with a METL (Mission Essential Task List). Each formation at every level has its own METL to execute for mission success. In a similar way Jesus shared a Combat Operations Plan with seven churches in the Book of Revelation. Jesus delivered the Plan and METL so they could overcome in their current fight. John received that Plan from Jesus for those seven churches. Yet, Jesus made it clear that both the Plan and METL were for every church and every Christian to execute until He returned. This makes the Book of Revelation a “NOW” book as much as it is a future book.
Combat sounds hard. Yet, recent events teach us that we are fighting for our peace and joy because we have an enemy scheming to steal them from us at every turn. Once Satan takes our peace, he has our civility and once he takes our joy, he has our strength. Have you noticed that the world has more mean people who are sad, lonely, and depressed? Many of them are Christians on social media.
Jesus died for more than our reconciliation; He also died so we could inherit righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. These three promised provisions are ours for living in this world, (Romans 14:17).
From Jesus is the Now King: I tried to park my anger in the truck as I went into the house; my wife and kids were so excited, and I did not want to dampen our time. We had no electricity in our home, but we had a small generator that kept the freezer and refrigerator going. We also had a few fans and a TV along with a CD player. There was no internet or Wi-Fi in the house, and no air conditioners to cool us down from the humid 90-degree days. My wife was cooking for a family of five on a single propane burner which made me want to do something to boost the morale at home. So, I asked everyone to name one thing that would make life better. The answers were crazy simple but not uncomplicated, under the conditions. Someone asked for name-brand pop-tarts. Another one said Lucky Charms and milk. One of my daughters said, “Dad, do you think we could get an ice-cream cone!” Of course, you know where my mind went. I almost chuckled to myself. (It felt like a good time to share with the family my aggravating experience with the ice cream truck).
